Spanish Fort, at 500 feet elevation, has rolling hills and wooded lots in most additions. Spanish Fort Estates has many historical markers and bunkers relating to the Civil War. Fort Blakely, in Spanish Fort, was the scene of the last battle of the Civil War.
Construction of the Eastern Shore Centre at Highways 31 and 181 has greatly increased revenue and the demand for housing in the area. Spanish Fort High School opened August, 2005. A new shopping area is presently being constructed with the Bass Pro Shop as an anchor. Many more shops, hotels and restaurants are being added and due to open in 2008.
Spanish Fort Estates is conveniently located to Daphne, Fairhope and I-10. It is an easy commute to Mobile and approximately forty-five minutes to Pensacola. The causeway, which runs parallel to the I-10 Bayway, has many restaurants and is the home of the USS Alabama, a WWII battleship which is open for tours seven days a week.
